Bali has the reputation for being a true “paradise” and in many ways that’s true. But even in paradise people have needs that are unmet. Thanks to support from many friends, especially our good friend Francoise Bourdon, owner of Joseph’s Coat, a Fair Trade oriented shop in Peterborough, New Hampshire, we are trying to fill a gap in the health service available to some of our craftsmen in Bali.
Many of our ata basket and ikat cloth weavers live in very remote rural areas unaffected by the profitable tourism industry of Bali. Access to good medical advice and care, especially pre-natal, is often quite limited in these villages. So to try andhelp alleviate this problem we’re beginning a program that will send a qualified nurse to visit our workers on a regular basis, just to make sure health questions they have can be answered, and in cases where there are problems, solutions found.
We’re very pleased to answer any questions about this program. Email us at ThePondok2000@gmail.com Please click on photo below of Wayan and Francoise in our “bale” in New Hampshire.
